Dr Chan Yew Ming in China

Dr Chan Yew Ming presented a paper entitled “Remnant, Immigrant Foreigner: an initial exploration of the inculturation issues faced by the Singaporean Churches” in the International Symposium for Biblical Studies in Context. The symposium was organized by the Center for the Study of Christianity, CASS, the Institute of Religion, MUC, and coordinated by the United Bible Society China Partnership. The Symposium was held in Beijing from October 19-21, 2018.

In the following month, he presented a paper entitled “Immigration and Ethnic Identity: the lessons from the Exile and Return from Exile” in the International Conference on the Bible and the Shared Future for Mankind. Held in Shanghai from November 15-16, 2018, the Conference was organized by the Institute of Religious Studies (Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences), the Center for the Studies of Religion and Culture (Shanghai), and Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences’s Think Tank Foundation.

Before his departure, the East China Theological Seminary invited Dr Chan to address both lecturers and students on “The Role of Old Testament prophets and their prophecies”. Their active participation reflected immense interests and ensured that misconceptions of ancient prophets and their proclamations are clarified.
