REPENTANCE
CALL FOR CLEANSING: based on person of God
1 Give grace to me, O God, according to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant compassion, wipe out my transgressions!
2 Wash me abundantly from my iniquity,
and from my sin purify me!
CONFESSION OF SIN
3 For my transgressions, I, I acknowledge
and my sin before me continually.
4 Against you, you alone, have I sinned,
and the evil in your eyes I have done.
so you are righteous in your sentence, blameless in your judgment.
5 See, in iniquity I was born,
and in sin my mother conceived me.
6 See, truth you delight in hidden parts;
and in a secret chamber, wisdom may you cause me to acknowledge.
CALL FOR CLEANSING: based on problem
7 May you unsin me with hyssop, and I shall be purified;
May you wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 May you cause me to hear exultation and gladness;
May they rejoice, the bones you have crushed.
9 Hide your face from my sins,
and all my iniquities wipe out!
RESTORATION
CALL FOR RENEWAL: based on problem
10 A pure heart create for me, O God,
and a steadfast spirit renew within me!
11 Do not cast me away from your face,
and your holy spirit do not take from me.
12 Cause to turn back for me the exultation of your salvation!
And a willing spirit may you sustain in me.
VOW TO PRAISE
13 Let me teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners to you will return.
14 Deliver me from blood, O God, God of my salvation,
my tongue will cry out your righteousness.
15 Lord, my lips may you open,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
16 For you have no delight in sacrifice;
and were I to give a burnt offering, you would not be pleased.
17 The sacrifice of God is a spirit broken;
A heart broken and crushed, God, you will not despise.
18-19 CALL FOR RESTORATION OF COMMUNITY
18 Do good in your pleasure to Zion;
May you build the walls of Jerusalem,
19 then you will delight in sacrifices of righteousness, burnt offering & whole,
then bulls will be offered on your sacrifice altar.
