Langham Scholars’ Consultation at TTC

On 19 – 21 February 2017 a number of Langham scholars in Asia (India, Malaysia, Philippine, Singapore, Papua, Vietnam and China) who studied in various parts of the world (UK, USA, Singapore, Philippine, India, New Zealand) gathered again at Trinity Theological College (TTC) in Singapore to attend the 3rd Langham Asian Consultation (LAC). This annual meeting is designed to strengthen the fellowship among Asian Langham scholars during and after their doctoral studies. It is meant to enhance the progress of their studies through the presentation and discussion of their current research as they prepare to return to their home countries.

In this consultation, the scholars gained some useful insight from some Christian leaders. From the Langham Partnership Dr. Chris Wright gave inspiring notes on the book of Lamentation, while Dr. Ian Shaw presented some critical issues in doing doctoral studies from the evangelical perspective. In another session, Dr. Patrick Fung of OMF highlighted some critical challenges to Christian leadership.

The Langham Partnership had used Trinity Theological College as the venue for its first consultation in 2015. This year, it chose TTC again for this event for three reasons: 1) the strategic location of Singapore and the ease of entry to this country, 2) the excellent academic environment of this college, particularly its library, and 3) the warm welcome and hospitality experienced by the gathered scholars. It is the hope of many Langham scholars that TTC will continue to provide support for the growth of Asian Christian scholarship as an excellent theological center in Asia.
